FARNINGHAM, KENT, THE GARDEN OF ENGLAND
MAY 21 2008
As the River Darent gently meanders along, a trickling stream runs the gauntlet beneath an historic bridge. Darting off into the countryside of Kent, in sporadic watery beds, reedy patchworks of foliage lie trapped below the undercurrent, fighting to reach the surface and stand proud once more.
A single leaf, held under by the reeds, caught my eye, ornately decorated with the autumnal colours of decay, strangely appealing against the rippling water.
Reminding me of the haunting imagery of bodies frantically seeking an exit hole from under thick layers of ice, the scene cried out to be captured....
....and the lonesome leaf freed.
