CAMBER SANDS
EAST SUSSEX
JUNE 28 2008
BY THE SEA
Water and earth, Sand and sky
Salty sea breeze, grains in my eye
White fluffy clouds, cotton wool pads
Ice creams for children, Lager for dads
Wind breakers, suncreen, slathered on thick
Dinghy's escaping, catch them now quick
Screams from the children, playful and wet
Mum calls it's lunchtime, the kids won't come yet
Sand in your trainers, sand in your hair
Sand filled baguette, in fact everywhere
A day of much laughter, a day by the sea
The laughter of mankind, it's good to be free
The cool air increases, the tide tuns it's tail
The water engulfs all the yachts set for sail
The picnics are gathered, the nappies are changed
And sand castle heaven turns to home on the range
The night sky encroaches, and fish gently swim
The public vacated, as darkness moves in
With fond flowing memories, a day that was great
As heads fall on pillows for a sleep that can't wait

Parasails looking like chaotic segulls, and outnumbering the gulls.
HM Navy's secret weapon, the edge-hovering vinyl dingy, code-name "Sea Spray", caught in the act. Brilliant, Paul. So is your poem...I am really taken by the rollicking up-tempo cadence of it all....great fun, as in G&S "Pirates of Penzance" which also has a salty taste.
FLOOG: Ah yes, Ray. The edge hovering vibyl dinghy can reach speeds of up to 100mph and take out entire battalions of unsuspecting foot soldiers in the blink of an eye! Ha ha
Camber sands is where the sea, at low tide, leaves you walking half a mile out in the wet stuff and stil;l standing only knee deep. This was being chased from sea to land by a young lad, and it just kept being blown further and further by the wind. Took him five minutes to finally catch it.
Whoa, that's quite a wind. Wonderfully vivid colors.
FLOOG: Hi Sherri. Yes, a boat that was not easy to miss, and equally hard to catch! ha ha
An excellent shot. The reflection really adds to the composition.
FLOOG: Many thanks, David
Great capture mate,I think they need traffic light with all those kite surfers in the back ground
FLOOG: Ha ha... you could be right. They certainly had the perfect day for it. Camber is always windy, and the dry sands swirls arouynd like drifting snow. We had sand in our crevices and salt in our mouyths all day!
But it was fun
MAGIC, Paul. It's MAGIC. All of it.
FLOOG: Good morning, Ginnie. And thank you most kindly. You know the funny thing, I've just learnt a trick on 'You Tube' on how to programme the camera for 8 fps without paying a fortune for a battery grip.
With this dinghy flying through the air, I had the perfect opportunity to test the new feature..... and did I? Nope!! So there I am shooting a single frame at a time...D'oh!
Looks like you had a good breeze
FLOOG: Thanks, Martin. It was something of a force ten gale, but great fun to be big kids trotting along the beach.
Excellent shot, the reflection it's very spectacular.
FLOOG: Thank you Zohre. Pure luck I have to say, I snapped away as the dinghy came floating by and hoped..
What a superb shot. Well done indeed.
FLOOG: Thanks, Gingeybaby
Two excellent pieces of work Paul. On a day I am heading to the beach with my work I could not believe your choice of image.
Fantastic poem, you are a master at putting words together and I’m sure during today on the beach I will refer to parts of your poem. Today’s image has a very cool dreich windy feel to it and a cracking capture.
FLOOG: Hey Scotia, you are most kind sir. Working on the beach! You lucky thing, you
Wild, wet, windy ... wickedly wonderful world
Whoopee ;-) richard
FLOOG: Ha ha... many thanks, Mr Trim
WOW - that is so cool, talk about timing....I like the reflection as well
FLOOG: Pure luck! ha ha The two boys were way out in the distance when the dinghy was hit by the wind, and one of them tried to chase it as it flew in the air. He must have been completely exhausted when he finally grabbed it five minutes later!
Superb image of a magic windy scene. You captured the flying boat a the perfect time to offer us this incredible reflection!
I really enjoyed you poem Paul.
FLOOG: I'm really pleased that you liked them, Richard. Thank you very much, sir
Excellent reactions to catch this one, especially with the background.
FLOOG: In my case, the camera is most definately superior to the user, and I just got lucky! You should see the thirty five shots that didn't work....
You must have quick reactions to have captured this without any blur. Love the splash of colour against the muted grey.
Ingrid
FLOOG: Good afternoon, Ingrid. It was certainly a dinghy that you would spot in a crowd... ha ha. Bright yellow would be putting it mildly
Oh this is great: that lilo is off the ground an running!
FLOOG: Ha ha... my wife said at one point, "Why don't you catch it for them!". You should have seen the speed it was travelling at with the gusts. I stayed put, needless to say... ha ha
Wonderful.....you must be really proud of this shot. It is just perfect. Wow!
FLOOG: That's most kind of you, Aisha. Every time I look at it, it makes me laugh, thinking about the lad having to track back about half a mile to catch it.
I'm wicked like that...
Perfect perfect capture here, we love this image
FLOOG: I'm very happy that you like it. Many thanks
great timing
FLOOG: Or luck..... I was in the right place at the right time, I think
Great use of colour, terrific shot.
FLOOG: Thanks, Aussie. I used a tint programme and simply concentrated on the natural colours of the dinghy, to hopefully make it stand out more.
great timing ... I second David as well
FLOOG: Thanks, Ade
Timing is everything! Amazing to have captured the raft just as it was bouncing off the ground. Love the birds in the background.
FLOOG: Hi, Marcie. I rattled off many shots as it moved across the landscape, and this one just appealed as the bounce worked quite nicely.
Many thanks for commenting
Really aerial...
FLOOG: Yes, it did the most acrobatic of moves as the wind caught it.
Love the misty background and the sea gulls. Great composition, would love to be there. The colors and reflections, they enhance the overall composition here. Excellent picture.
FLOOG: Thank you very much, John. It was a fabulous day, and the wind really added to the childish fun that we had. My wife took her shoes off and dipped her toes, and childhood memories abounded.
Wonderful moment! I know Camber Sands well and that wind can sure blow !
FLOOG: So many years since our last visit, that we'd forgotten until we arrived. Talk about skin dermobrasion by sand! But what a laugh.
you are blessed with two talents Paul when most of us would be happy with one
FLOOG: Tim, my teacher used to say that I was blessed with two talents: The ability to seriously tick her off and a gift of talking absolute gibberish! ha ha
Seriously matey, what a compliment you pay me. If I can entertain or raise a smile or a moment of contemplation with my simple images and words, then I am as happy as a pig in a tub full of the proverbial. Thank you very much indeed, you have made my afternoon
This is brilliant. Looks busy in the waters. Love it.
FLOOG: Hi Mroy, and thank you.
Yes, it was frenetic out there. The race was on with the flying wotsits, and they came storming along the coastline towards us, battling the winds and seagulls. Loads of hardy souls braved the beach, and the little bars and food outlets were full of families. It was a brilliant little detour before heading into Rye.
Whoa Baby! Do I love this image! The sky is alive and the sea is dancing. The reflection of that dinghy on the glassy beach is unbelievable. How did you get it so sharp?! Fantastico.
FLOOG: Good afternnon, Karima. I'm so pleased that you like this. It really was just a quick shot and a hope that one of many would come out OK.
The sharpness comes from the camera, I have to say. I spent my Grandfather's inheritance money on a Nikon D300 which I know he would have approved of. I also use a Nikon D80, and without wishing to sound like a salesman, I really do love the quality of the images they give as standard. The D300 has up to 51 focal points which I use a lot, and 3D tracking (which I didn't use on this). I took many shots of the dinghy flying through the air, many of which didn't work, but I got lucky with this one... ha ha Many thanks for commenting
I am speechless with admiration.
FLOOG: Hi Sheila, what a lovely comment. Honestly, lot's of luck, not skill with this one. But, I'm really pleased that you like it.
"Sea Spay" !!!
It's the name of the boat !!! You do that on purpose, no ??!! Well, I like it. Good snapshot. Really.
FLOOG: Hi Fabrice. Yes, that was the actual name on the dinghy, and very apt for the high winds at Camber sands, I think ha ha
Many thanks for commenting
Well caught Paul, and I like all the kite things which give the rather blank sky so much interest.
FLOOG: Many thanks, Brian
Well caught Paul! E Jarvis Tribb (171/2) had better watch out or private eye will be replacing him!
FLOOG: Ha ha.... But Bill, nobody has died and I have not mentioned Keith or his mum!
I can almost hear the wind in my ears and feel it on my skin, Paul. Wonderful mood catching photo.
FLOOG: Many thanks, Kay. We certainly felt the wind all around us, but it was great fun
Bonjour,
Good idea..Well done shot..Good timing..bravo!
FLOOG: Bonjour Jelb, and many thanks for visiting
Great shot. I love the reflection of the blowing boat on the wet sand.
FLOOG: Good morning Andy. Many thanks, I got lucky there ha ha
Everything is surreal about this image. Like a still from an absurd movie.
On a technical side, the horizon needs a bit straightening.
FLOOG: Hi VZ, just a normal day on a windswept British beach ha ha. Thanks for visiting and commenting
Haha ... great shot. Nice eyecatcher in the foreground and a very crowded kitesurfing area.
FLOOG: Many thanks, Cako
Simply.. a fantastic shot! You could have waited years for a shot like that and never got it. Funny how things work out.
FLOOG: Hi JT, many thanks. Yes, we watched as the boat started flying across the water, way out in the distance wuith the lad chasing it. T'was very funny.. ha ha
Really well caught. If I were being a painful perfectionist, I'd clone out the nearest seagull so that there is even more space around the dingy.
FLOOG: Hi Ian, and a perfectly valid point sir.
I must confess that I have never used a cloning tool and never will. Being just a pleb with my snaps, I like the photographs warts and all, and never remove anything other than a crop to improve the composition. Just one of my ways I guess. Many thanks for taking the time to comment
Time is suspended. That is a piece of magic.
FLOOG: Thank you Michael, you are very kind.
Jealous of the kites? :-D
FLOOG: You could be right, Jan. It certainly stole their thunder
Fantastique image.
Sujet bien exploité. J'aime la réflection.
FLOOG: Hi Line, and thank you most kindly
