MY FATHER'S WATER FEATURE
BLACKHEATH, LONDON
MAY 5 2008
The rare opportunity of some quality 'Me' time, away from the rigors of the daily grind, the bickering teens at that 'difficult' age, and the mind numbing tedium of a dead end job.
.....And all it does is rain!
The cameraderie of four lifelong chums, male bonding in it's purest form, acting their shoe sizes not their age. Guards down, impervious to the cruel and frequent taunts, casting doubts on each others ability and manhood in a cacophony of raucus laughter and jolity.
.....And all it does is rain!
Brand new Graphite's, responsible for draining my bank account of a full month's salary, and the sale of my very soul to the Devil himself to procure, my partners in crime and I, perched beneath the barely adequate dimensions of our individual umbrellas, watch and wait.
.....And still, all it does is rain.
The only fools braving the waterlogged course, one hour down and six holes in. Laughing so much we are almost in tears, reliving our childhood and loving every second of our time together. The lure of drinks at the clubhouse and tall tales of the shots which eluded our amateurish grasp, beckons us ever onwards.
The time of our lives. Let it rain some more!

what a fanciful sculpture. i love the raindrops
FLOOG: I love this water feature. My dad hand painted and lacquered it himself, and it's pride of place on his terrace. Thanks for commenting, Mroy
I have played, about 10 times, but hardly regard myself as having caught the virus; twice it was bucketing down, and the ludicrous situation transformed the outing from a serious sporting event into a riot of juvenile pranks and laughter as we splashed about on greens where the water was ankle-deep...I believe I know exactly what your post is about...
It is a marvelous image, Paul, but I don't quite agree with the anguished look on the golfer's face. [grin]
FLOOG: Ray, I had the same experience. My wife and I took it up for a laugh and every time we played, it rained. We once stood, like this in the centre of a nine hole par three course in Sidcup, under a brolly, trapped by a masive deluge of rain and ended up laughing like kids and having a great time.
We never caught the bug, but my dad used to enjoy playing.
Whimsical, fanciful and delightful, Paul. Let it rain, indeed.
FLOOG: Many thanks, Ginnie
Stunning colors and excellent capture of time with the falling water being blurred.
FLOOG: Thanks for visiting, David
That would be a gorgeous piece to have on the terrace. I love it.
FLOOG: Michael, I've threatened my dad that I might steal it as I like it so much, but I don't think I could lift it! Ha ha
I like this capture,Good job
FLOOG: Thanks, Zohre
Beautiful capture Paul. I really like the light in the raindrops!
I love it.
FLOOG: Many thanks, Richard
The trials and tribulations of golfers ... never did understand the need to try and get a little white ball into a little hole. To do it once seems a reasonable challenge ... but then to take it out and do the whole thing again and again and again... seems a bit like rewinding the tape loop .... ;-) ;-) ;-)
I jest of course... A fine family sory and, as you might guess, I think the water aspects of this image are a delight. richard
FLOOG: LOL, Richard. Many thanks for visiting
I love the dark colours on this, and the water splashing really makes the shot
FLOOG: I'm glad you like it, many thanks for visiting
I love this photo, for it's humour., the facial expression and the capture of the water. The story goes well too.
FLOOG: I'm glad that you like it, Sheila. Thanks very much for commenting
Nice dof on this Paul. Like how the water comes down between the two layers of umbrella. Lovely image.
FLOOG: Thanks, Aussie

FLOOG: Thanks, Chantal
Gorgeous image; wonderful thoughts; nice post
FLOOG: You are most kind, Sherri. Many thanks
Artistry obviously runs in the family. Great sculpture by your dad and a masterful shot of it in the rain. It's all been said by the others here. Found path to you via One Way Photoblog. Shall return.
FLOOG: Hi Hugh, many thanks for taking the time to visit and comment.
Good work with the tones and the DOF!
FLOOG: Thanks Martin
That's the sentiment here, at the moment. We've had the wettest everything on record. Summer? Hmm...maybe next year. Oh, and love the guy's expression.
FLOOG: My clan over in Sidney and Vancouver BC, have also had a very mixed bag, Alexandra. I hope it perks up for our months vacation over there in two months time!
Many thanks for visiting and commenting
Rain or shine Paul you have got a great picture here, more than can be said of the day with your friends on the golf course.
FLOOG: Hi Brian, yes, although I hung my clubs up many a moon ago, I still have some very funny memories of my golfing forrays. Many thanks for commenting
Old golfers never die...they simply lose their balls
Great water feature Paul and a nice take on it.
FLOOG: Bill, I seem to have misplaced mine long ago! LOL
Still laughing at your comment as I type....
lol great stuff Paul and what a shot to go with it, your showing a remarkable eye for a shot my friend indeed
FLOOG: I take that as a real compliment, Tim. Many thanks for that.
Nice one Paul ,picture and story.
FLOOG: Many thanks, Michael
A lot of tenderness on this shot, Paul.
I like it.
FLOOG: Good evening Fabrice. My dad is a remarkable man, very special in my life, and so adept at making and mending things. Sadly I never inherited those genes, but I love how he painstakingly hand painted this water feature, and got it spot on in my opinion.
There are so many things in my parents house and garden that are so intrisically representative of dad's eye for attention and detail, and I wanted to represent that in photographic form. Many thanks for your comments
So your father made a sculpture of you? You didn't look half bad then.
Excellent rain story.
Glad to see you splashing out! A love the composition in this.
I sent you a responce, but I accidently deleted your comment; don't know how to get it back, but hopefully u got the email. Thanks for the compliment, and you have a great body of work which I will have to review. I might have to take a break from posting just to review everyones work
