RYE
EAST SUSEX
JUNE 29 2008
On a jolly jaunt down to the coast, the warmth of the early morning sunlight wafts in through the air vents as we join a convoy of sixties memorabilia on two wheels.
The smell of two stroke oil permeates our nostrils, as the pack take turns on point duty, feet to the floor, flat stick and heavily laden with backpacks and expectations of a club meeting in the town centre. Immaculately preened and polished machines adorned with olden days black licence plates and stunning silver lettering, keep up a respectable pace with the flowing traffic.
A sea of chrome glistens on every turn, as brake lights scream 'help' and tyres scrabble for grip as the counter steering techniques go completely out of the window.
Parked up in the town, the half face lids are removed to reveal the smiles on thirty something faces, revelling in the full Lambretta experience as they seek out some decent nosh, and swell with pride as the crowds gather around their pride and joy.

Nice crop. I envy the mileage scooters get.
FLOOG: Hi Red Pen. Yes, they make a lot of sense on our little Island, these days.
the wise choice with the pinch at the pump, plus this looks pretty cool.
FLOOG: Agreed on both counts, and they always have a lot of fun on them
Crisp clean ... Sharp ... lighting superb
FLOOG: Many thanks, Ade
Not many Lambrettas in Thailand, but the place is practically awash with '60s model Vespas...it seems they are prized family possessions, and get handed down through the generations.
They are work-horses, though...earning their fuel as principal family transport, or as family business delivery vehicles. Wonderful image, Paul.
FLOOG: Hi Ray. These little puppies are lovingly restored and cherished by their owners. Absolutely immaculate and original in every detail. I prefer big bikes, but I still like admiring these little'uns ha ha
man those are pretty...nice framing...
got it to load the third time was a charm... e
FLOOG: Welcome Eddie, I will get back to you on your recent email as soon as I have a chance. Many thanks for visiting and commenting
These must be owned by enthusiasts - they are so clean! Delightful shot
FLOOG: Good morning Chris. Yes, enthusiast clubs abound, and the bikes are either purchased restored and mint for a small fortune, or restored by the owners. They are very (rightly so), proud of them
Many thanks for commenting
Very soon these are what we all will be able to afford
FLOOG: You know, you may well be right there.
These look like they'd be fun to ride. They're so sleek. Your capture is terrific.
FLOOG: Hi Sherri, many thanks. Yes, nippy and fun. Plus there is always the 'pose' factor
Lovely shot Floog. Well done.
FLOOG: Thanks Mrs Floog... ha ha.
Yes, I have to announce that Gingeybaby is my better half It took me a lot of persuading to get her to start a blog, despite her having, in my opinion, a great eye for a shot, she was a little nervous. We thought we'd keep it all quiet, but sooner or later photos from Canada nd Vegas will appear and it'll be obvious! So there we are.
Sounds like a fab day Paul. Lovely image, you can see the pride and joy of the owners in your iamge.
FLOOG: Thanks, Scotia. Yes, a wonderful day and real fish and chips by the seaside!
Recently whilst waiting for some friends in a pub car park, a convoy of 50 something bikers appeared. all of them on Harley Davidsons. They were superb and immaculate.
My favourite memory of scooters was seeing how many rear view mirrors they had on them! You wouldn't get me on one they are totally unstable. These are in perfect condition.
FLOOG: I think they are as fanatical as me, Bill. My 1300cc monster of a bike sits under a duvet, with an Optimate charger on at all times and is polished to within an inch of her life!
I wish my 4x4 got same fuel results.good photo mate
FLOOG: ha ha....
very good cropping
FLOOG: Thanks, Chantal. I thought the 'essence' of the bikes worked far better than the straight forward complete frame.
Great shot of some great scooters, love the colours of the middle one.
FLOOG: Thanks, Astrid. They were mint condition, lovingly restored, and the colours really glistened in the bright sunlight.
Wonderful composition Paul. I am amazed by the clarity and the sharpness!
FLOOG: Thanks Richard
Cool bikes!
Nice nostalgic photo. Must have been a sight to see.
Do you join the big bikers on their similar (but larger) annual "day out" in Hastings?
FLOOG: Hi Sheila. I must admit I've always enjoyed solo riding myself, though I did attend some superb club meetings with the Kawasaki ZRX group.
GINGEYBABY (AKA Mrs Floog), used to ride pillion with me, but the old legs are not what they used to be, and so I'm a solo rider again. My fave biking meets are at Boxhill and the Ace Cafe
So when are you gonna show us YOUR bike, Paul???
And WOW. Gingeybaby is Mrs. Floog! I love it!!!!!
FLOOG: Hi Ginnie, many thanks. I am very proud of Gingeybaby who has only been really enjoying photography for a year now, and although I'm biased, I think she's taken some wonderful shots. (she'll kill me for saying that!! ha ha)
I have a photo lined up of Rhonda, my big beastie, and will fit it in soon
Great shot Paul, but for the real Lambretta experience you needed to be a 60's child, anorak and all.
FLOOG: Absolutely right, Brian
I personally don't rave bikes but I fully understand the joy of them ... and I enjoy the vibes that you project and so obviouly get from owning one of them there 'potent piston power packs'.
cheers richard
FLOOG: Ha ha... thanks Richard
As I read your words, I could put myself into both the cars and wishing I was on the scooters as well. There is only one problem here...Vespas and ice don't mix
Then again, gas prices and my car don't mix either!!
FLOOG: David, you are so right. I've ridden big motorcycles for three decades now, including through snow and ice. I'm now very much a fair weather rider as rain and snow is no fun at all on two wheels.
On a dry day though.... the smell of the fields, the throb of something rampant between your legs, the feeling of being alive as you fire from apex to apex..... Ah, the joys of biking
ha MR and MRS Gingeybaby, and a delightful couple you must be
FLOOG: Ha ha... Yes, Rhonda the Honda is in a slightly different power class to these tiny minnows! I think Gingeybaby has posted a photograph of the fish and chips we had in Rye... LOL
These seem very well looked after. They are beautiful machines. I have a picture on my blog of some if you want to have a look http://anniedog.shutterchance.com/blog.php?itemRef=116412
Ingrid
FLOOG: Good evening, Ingrid. I've just peeked at yours, excellent
They are superb. It's a special Italia !!!
Great capture, Paul.
What a great write-up. I can see it all. And what pretty (perhaps not manly like a harley
Ah!! I used to have one of those! Mine was an Li150 bored out to 175cc! These look to be in fine fettle.. well looked after by the look of it. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
I have a lambretta watch
I like them - there is something about their shape...
FLOOG: Is it fast..... ha ha
Umm.. are we getting to be treated to a piccy of the throbbing Rhonda?! Or have I already missed it?
FLOOG: Hello JT, yes I've one of Rhonda waiting in the wings, and she will make an appearance soon... he he
Crisp...very nicely done.
